When will my phone get Android 15?

Exciting news for Android users: Android 15 is now available for select smartphones! This update has been in the works since February and has gone through three main stages of development. It’s finally starting to roll out, with Google’s Pixel phones getting the first dibs. So if you’ve been eagerly waiting for this new software, the wait is almost over!

 

When Will Your Phone Get Android 15?

Curious about when your current Android phone will receive the Android 15 update? Here’s the scoop so far!

The Android release process typically unfolds in three phases: the developer preview, public beta testing, and then the final release.

  • Developer Preview: This stage kicked off on February 16, 2024. It allowed app developers to get a sneak peek at the upcoming features and changes. This is essential for them to prepare their apps for the new software and add any new functionalities they might want to include.
  • Public Beta Testing: On April 11, the first public beta was made available. This means anyone interested could try out the new features before the official release. Beta testers could report any bugs or issues, which helps Google iron out problems before the final rollout. While these beta versions are more stable than the developer previews, they still come with a few hiccups since they are essentially early versions of the software.

 

Timeline of Android 15’s Release

As of August 20, Google released Beta 4.1 for eligible devices, and anyone could join in on the testing by enrolling in Google’s beta program. Then, on October 15, 2024, the full Android 15 began rolling out to select devices. Given that Android phones come from a variety of manufacturers, the rollout will happen at different times for different brands. Naturally, Google’s own Pixel devices are the first to receive it.

 

Which Phones Will Get Android 15?

Here’s a look at the phones expected to get the Android 15 update:

Google Pixel Devices

If you own a Google Pixel, you’re in luck! Here’s a list of Pixel models getting the update:

  • Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL
  • Pixel 9 Pro Fold
  • Pixel 8 and 8 Pro
  • Pixel 8a
  • Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
  • Pixel 7a
  • Pixel 6 and 6 Pro
  • Pixel 6a
  • Pixel Fold
  • Pixel Tablet

However, if you have a Pixel 5 or an older model, you won’t be able to upgrade to Android 15.

Samsung Galaxy Devices

Samsung’s latest interface, One UI 6, was a significant upgrade, but they’re working on even more visual improvements for One UI 7. Unfortunately, Samsung recently announced a delay for One UI 7, likely pushing it to coincide with the Galaxy S25 launch in January.

While Samsung hasn’t confirmed which devices will get Android 15, we can make some educated guesses based on their update policies. Generally, Samsung offers at least two years of software upgrades, and recently increased this to seven for the Galaxy S24 lineup. Therefore, any Samsung device that originally shipped with Android 13 is likely to be eligible for Android 15.

Here are some possible candidates for the update:

  • Galaxy S Series:
    • Galaxy S24 Ultra, S24 Plus, S24
    • Galaxy S23 Ultra, S23 Plus, S23, S23 FE
    • Galaxy S22 Ultra, S22 Plus, S22, S21 series

  • Galaxy A Series and Tablets:
    • A range of A-series devices, including A73 and A54
    • Tablets like the Galaxy Tab S9 series

Samsung will share a confirmed list of eligible devices soon.

OnePlus

OnePlus plans to announce OxygenOS 15, based on Android 15, at an event on October 24. They will showcase new features and confirm which devices will get the update. Expected eligible devices include:

  • OnePlus 12, 12R, and Open
  • OnePlus 11 and 10 series
  • OnePlus Nord series

Motorola

Motorola has shared a list of devices expected to get Android 15, and it includes many models released in the past year:

  • Motorola Razr and Razr Plus (2023 and 2024)
  • Motorola Edge and Moto G series
  • A broad range of devices from the Moto G Power to the Moto G Stylus.

Nothing

For Nothing Phone users, the Android 15 beta is available for the Nothing Phone 2 and 2a. Unfortunately, the original Nothing Phone will not get the update.

Honor

Currently, only a couple of Honor models can access the Android 15 beta, including the Magic 6 Pro and Magic V2. Other devices that might receive the update include the Honor 200 series and Magic 5 series.

Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco

Xiaomi has started rolling out Android 15 developer previews for its flagship models. They’ve hinted that many of their phones will receive the update, including:

  • Xiaomi 14 and 14 Ultra
  • A variety of Xiaomi 13 models
  • Redmi Note 13 and other recent models
  • Poco X6 Pro and other devices

Realme

Realme is also expected to announce which of its devices will get Android 15 soon.
