Another beloved classic from the Nintendo 64 era is making its way to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack! Banjo-Tooie, the sequel to the hit game Banjo-Kazooie, will officially be available on the service starting October 25, as announced by Nintendo.
In the announcement, which came through a new trailer (linked above), the game looks very much like the original version fans know and love. It’s essentially a direct port to the Switch, but with one key improvement: a new widescreen mode. This means you’ll get a better view of the action on larger screens, making the gameplay feel more modern and immersive.
For those who might not know, Banjo-Tooie is the follow-up to Banjo-Kazooie, which has been on Nintendo Switch Online since 2022. While Banjo-Kazooie is perhaps the more famous of the two, Banjo-Tooie has plenty of its own charm. The sequel ramps things up with more complex puzzles, improved graphics for its time, bigger game worlds to explore, and even multiplayer modes for added fun.
This release is also significant for nostalgic gamers because Banjo-Tooie was the last title developed by Rare for Nintendo before Microsoft acquired the company in 2002. Rare was a key partner for Nintendo during the N64 era, producing several iconic games like GoldenEye 007, which, alongside Banjo-Kazooie, joined the Switch Online + Expansion Pack lineup in 2022 and 2023.
If you’re already a fan of retro gaming, the Expansion Pack offers a great selection of other N64 classics, such as Mario Kart 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and multiple Mario Party titles. Plus, the service also includes games from other consoles like the Super NES, Game Boy, NES, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis.
For just $20 a year, you can access the base Nintendo Switch Online service, but for $50 annually, the Expansion Pack tier gives you access to even more of these retro gems. If you’ve been on the fence about subscribing, now might be the perfect time to dive in and relive some gaming history
