Santa Barbara Foundation and California Lutheran University Center for Nonprofit Leadership Host PR Workshop Led by Marketing Maven CEO Lindsey Carnett

Half-day complimentary workshop will provide Santa Barbara County nonprofit staff and board members with strategies to build media visibility and earn meaningful coverage

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Marketing Maven CEO and president Lindsey Carnett will lead “Building Media Visibility For Your Nonprofit: PR Strategies That Get Results,” an in-person workshop presented by California Lutheran University’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership with support from the Santa Barbara Foundation on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Santa Barbara Foundation’s South County office.

As the only management training center of its kind in the region, the Center for Nonprofit Leadership provides practical and affordable professional development opportunities for nonprofit leaders serving Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties. The CNL is committed to equipping nonprofit leaders with data-driven resources and training to support long-term success.

Through the generous support of the Santa Barbara Foundation, the workshop is offered free of charge to nonprofit professionals and board members serving communities throughout Santa Barbara County. The interactive, three-part workshop is designed to help participants develop the skills and strategies needed to identify newsworthy stories, craft compelling messages and build relationships with relevant media outlets.

“Every nonprofit has stories worth telling, but earning meaningful media coverage requires knowing how to identify those stories and communicate why they matter,” said Carnett. “My goal is for participants to leave with practical PR strategies they can immediately put to work to strengthen visibility, build credibility and create greater awareness of their organizations and missions.”

During the workshop, participants will develop potential story ideas, refine media pitches and practice identifying appropriate media targets while receiving feedback in a collaborative environment. Attendees will also learn how to repurpose earned media coverage across other marketing channels to extend its value and support broader organizational objectives.

The workshop will explore how strategic earned media can help nonprofits strengthen donor engagement, increase community awareness, support board recruitment and engagement and enhance organizational reputation. A panel of local nonprofit leaders who have successfully generated media coverage will share their experiences, practical strategies and lessons learned, providing attendees with real-world insights they can apply within their own organizations.

Carnett is a marketing and public relations professional with more than two decades of industry experience. As CEO and president of Marketing Maven, a research-driven integrated marketing and public relations agency, she has advised organizations on public relations, reputation management, social media, search engine optimization, GEO and other integrated communications strategies. Carnett also serves as a faculty lecturer for Cal Lutheran’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership and is an alumna of the university.

“Building Media Visibility For Your Nonprofit: PR Strategies That Get Results” will take place Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Santa Barbara Foundation South County office, 1111 Chapala Street, Suite 200, Santa Barbara.
