Samsung and ASML Strengthen Collaboration for Advanced Semiconductor Production
Samsung Electronics and ASML have announced the expansion of their strategic partnership, focusing on advancing High NA EUV lithography and cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing technologies. This collaboration aims to enhance innovation in the AI-driven semiconductor industry.
The expansion builds on a history of successful cooperation, with both companies aiming to expedite the development and deployment of technologies that meet the growing demands for enhanced performance and efficiency in semiconductor manufacturing. Samsung will actively participate in advancing the next-generation 12-inch photomask technology, a significant shift from the decades-old 6-inch standard. The introduction of 12-inch masks is expected to increase fabrication productivity, reduce chip manufacturing costs, and eliminate stitching constraints, allowing manufacturers to fully benefit from High NA EUV technology.
Samsung’s expertise in memory and foundry manufacturing, complemented by its extensive experience with advanced EUV lithography, positions the company as a key player in the transition to 12-inch photomasks. Samsung will collaborate with industry partners to develop the necessary mask technologies and supporting infrastructure.
Additionally, Samsung plans to incorporate ASML’s High NA EUV lithography into DRAM high-volume manufacturing by 2028, marking an industry-first initiative. This move is anticipated to extend the DRAM scaling roadmap by enhancing resolution, which simplifies processes and boosts efficiency.
The announcement underscores both companies’ commitment to innovation, technological leadership, and long-term collaboration. Samsung and ASML will continue to explore partnership opportunities in areas such as advanced memory and novel manufacturing techniques.
