Apple has unveiled iOS 17, the next version of the iPhone’s operating system. This year’s major updates include a new Standby mode that transforms an iPhone into a smart bedside clock with widgets,  an updated Messages app, Live Voicemail and more.

There’s also a new Journal app which enables you to pen down ideas and store pictures in private throughout the day. Check out some features of iOS 17 below.

Standby Mode

One of iOS 17’s most significant upgrades is a new method to use and interact with your iPhone while it’s charging. Standby Mode allows you to view images, the time in a bigger size and even widgets, almost like a smart display.

Journal App

Journal, a new app introduced in iOS 17, is a useful tool that allows you to write down ideas throughout the day. You may also use pictures and other media to help you keep track of what you’re doing each day.

Updated Phone App

An application that sometimes gets overlooked, it appears that Apple has significantly improved the Phone experience this time around. The new Contacts interface, like the home screen view introduced in iOS 16, is colourful and bright with lots of emoji and font options.

FaceTime

FaceTime messages are new in iOS 17, allowing you to send someone a short video message if they are not available to take your call.

iOS 17 Potential Release Date

Apple is going to reveal iOS 17 at WWDC 2023. A public release will take place in July, and a complete release will most likely take place in September 2023, alongside the speculated iPhone 15.
