Apple officially hints at new M4 Macs

Apple’s Senior VP of Marketing, Greg Joswiak, has just confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that a lineup of new Macs is on the way! While it’s not an invitation to an exclusive event, this announcement has fans buzzing, especially as it’s expected to unveil a new generation of M4-powered devices.

According to ongoing rumors and some leaked packaging images, the fresh lineup may feature updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, a redesigned Mac mini, and an upgraded iMac. Joswiak’s teaser post hints, “Mac (😉) your calendars! We have an exciting week of announcements ahead, starting on Monday morning. Stay tuned…” Accompanying the post is an animated Finder icon that flips around to reveal a glowing Apple logo in a colorful scheme that hints at Apple’s AI-driven themes.

The “exciting week of announcements” promises much more than new hardware. Alongside these Mac releases, it’s likely Apple will officially ship iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Each OS update includes anticipated Apple Intelligence tools, such as Writing Tools, enhanced Siri, new photo organization tools, and an improved Notification Summary. A particularly cool new feature, iPhone Mirroring, allows you to drag and drop items seamlessly from your Mac to your iPhone. Plus, developer previews of macOS Sequoia 15.2, iPadOS 18.2, and iOS 18.2 are already showing off even more new features, including a dedicated Image Playground app for Mac.

Meanwhile, leaked images from a YouTuber in Russia have shown what may be the upcoming M4 MacBook Pros, which look to maintain the current design—a fan-favorite layout with excellent port selection, vivid displays, and a solid keyboard. The M4 chip promises a performance boost, especially for demanding creative tasks, thanks to an enhanced GPU, though Apple Intelligence features will likely be the star of the show.

Additionally, rumors suggest that Apple’s accessory lineup might get some love. Updates to the Magic Keyboard, Trackpad, and Mouse are expected, possibly swapping Lightning ports for USB-C, although a full redesign seems unlikely.

Joswiak’s teaser marks Monday, October 28, 2024, as the start of this exciting release window, with the potential for a big reveal on Halloween, October 31. Let’s hope Apple includes a few extra treats with these announcements!
