After much anticipation, Apple has unveiled its newest iMac model powered by the M4 chip, making it the first Mac device to integrate Apple Intelligence, an AI-driven technology that enhances performance.
Enhanced Speed and Efficiency
Apple says the M4 iMac provides a significant speed boost compared to the M1 iMac, claiming it’s 1.7 times faster for routine tasks and up to 2.1 times faster for more intensive applications, such as photo editing and gaming. This upgrade makes it ideal for users who need a fast, smooth experience across varied tasks.
New Display and Camera Features
The M4 iMac retains the 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, now with an optional nano-texture glass, which reduces glare for better visibility. A new 12MP Center Stage camera includes Desk View, a feature that offers dynamic adjustments to keep you centered in the frame during video calls, improving the experience for remote work and virtual meetings. The addition of up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports provides ample connectivity for all users’ needs.
Pricing and Configurations
The starting price for the new M4 iMac is slightly lower than the previous M3 version, beginning at $1,299 / £1,299 / AU$1,999, compared to $1,399 / £1,399 / AU$2,199. Available configurations include:
- Up to 24GB of memory and 1TB storage for $1,929 / £1,929 / AU$2,939.
- An upgraded 10-core CPU/10-core GPU model with 32GB memory and 2TB storage is priced at $2,699 / £2,699 / AU$4,199.
Apple M4 vs. M3: What’s Different?
- Processor and Graphics: The M4 offers up to 10-core CPU/10-core GPU compared to the M3’s 8-core CPU/10-core GPU.
- Neural Processing: The M4’s Neural Engine is capable of 38 trillion operations per second (TOPS), a significant leap over the M3’s 18 TOPS.
- Memory Options: While the M3 was capped at 24GB, the M4 iMac supports up to 32GB of unified memory.
The M4 iMac launches on November 8, 2024, and looks to set a new standard for speed and functionality in the iMac lineup. More updates are expected as additional information becomes available.
