Aidan Hutchinson releases inspirational statement after season-ending injury
The day after Aidan Hutchinson, the star edge rusher for the Detroit Lions, suffered a season-ending injury, a statement was shared on his behalf.
This uplifting message was posted on Instagram, expressing gratitude for all the support he has received. It also shared the good news that his surgery went well and that he is on track for a full recovery.
The statement read: “Given Aidan’s injury last night, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Your support during this unexpected situation means a lot to our family.”
The message continued, “We are grateful to report that Aidan’s surgery was successful. A big thank you to the doctors and nurses who have taken such wonderful care of him. Aidan wants everyone to know that his journey of healing and recovery has started. He’s embracing Detroit’s motto: *resurget cineribus*, which means he will rise from the ashes.”
There have been mixed messages regarding how long Hutchinson’s recovery will take. ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned that he has a broken tibia and fibula and may need around six to eight months to heal, which means he will miss the rest of the season.
On the other hand, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said he believes Hutchinson’s recovery could take about four to six months. He hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Hutchinson returning if the team makes a strong playoff push. A source close to Hutchinson told reporters that he is hopeful to make a comeback if the Lions reach the Super Bowl, which is less than four months away.
Campbell said, “It’s four to six months. I would never count Hutch out. Ever. It’s probably going to be a long road, but if anyone can make it back, it’s him.” He added, “Knowing Hutch, he has that rare ability — if he sets his mind to something, he can will himself to get there. He has that mindset that can heal the body, and he’ll find every possible way to get back. So, who knows what’s possible?”
No matter the timeline, we’re all wishing Hutchinson the very best in his recovery.
