Strands is a fresh daily puzzle from the New York Times that gives a clever twist to the classic word search. It requires a sharp eye and some strategic thinking to crack the puzzle.
How to Play Strands
In Strands, your goal is to find hidden “theme words” in a grid of letters. You can manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping them to form words. Once you’ve crafted a word, double-tap the final letter to lock it in. If it’s one of the theme words, the letters will turn blue and become unselectable.
Just like Wordle, Connections, and The Mini Crossword, Strands can be tricky on some days. If you’re struggling with today’s puzzle, don’t worry—it happens to everyone! You can check out the answers below to see where you might have missed a word.
How to Earn Hints
Even if you don’t find a theme word right away, discovering non-theme words helps too! For every three non-theme words you find that are at least four letters long, you’ll earn a hint. This hint reveals some letters from a theme word, making it easier to unscramble and solve.
There’s no overlap between letters—each letter is used once and only once in the puzzle. Also, every puzzle contains one special “spangram,” which is a word (or words) that represents the puzzle’s theme and stretches from one side of the grid to the other. It will be highlighted in yellow when you find it.
The aim is to complete the puzzle as quickly as possible while using as few hints as you can!
