Zack Snyder Reveals What He Hopes to See From James Gunn’s DCU
Zack Snyder talked about his excitement for James Gunn’s creation of the DC Universe. The DCEU movie timeline, which spanned 2013 to 2023, was Warner Bros.’ effort to create a connected superhero universe based on DC Comics characters.
But after multiple creative changes behind the scenes and a poor box office result, a new DC Universe was born, co-led by Peter Safran and James Gunn.
During a recent interview with CBR, Snyder was questioned about his desires for Gunn’s DC Universe, given that the Rebel Moon director is a big comic book fan. Given his affiliation with the DCEU, fans are interested in learning about Snyder’s plans for the forthcoming DC film series, even if he has moved on from his work with DC following Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
When questioned which character he wants to see succeed, Snyder replied, “I mean, I’m kind of a public person. I’m okay with it if the characters are handled with respect and are accurate in terms of mythology. I’m on board. See what transpires. I’m quite happy right now. We’ll see what happens when Superman arrives since we’re going to get him quite soon.”
Snyder and Gunn have a history together since the latter created the script for Snyder’s first feature film, Dawn of the Dead. It just so happens that both would eventually become heavily involved in making films based on the stories and characters featured in DC Comics. Following the announcement of Gunn and Safran taking over DC Studios, Gunn disclosed that Snyder had given him a call to wish him luck on the next project.
