We’ve always wished for a 15-inch MacBook Air. It never made sense to me that a large-screen MacBook would cost significantly more than a 13-inch model. The 15-inch was always buried under the “Pro” series, despite the fact that many potential buyers didn’t want that more power: we just wanted a bigger screen.
Apple’s 15-inch Air, revealed last week, appears to be the solution to our prayers. For the first time, you can purchase a MacBook with a bigger screen without paying a fee for extra power or features.
The new 15-inch Air is just a larger version of the 13-inch update from last year: It has the same design language, an M2 chip with an eight-core CPU and a 10-core GPU with up to 24GB of memory, two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, a MagSafe charging port, a 1080p webcam, and a display with a P3 color gamut and up to 500 nits of brightness. It also claims the same 18-hour battery life, owing to a bigger battery powering the larger display.
The sole difference between the 13-inch and the 15-inch is that the 15-inch has a six-speaker sound system with “force-canceling woofers” as compared to the 13-inch four-speaker system. Simply said, this is a large MacBook Air without the hefty price tag.
Apple is asking $1,299 for this dream machine, which, although not cheap, is considerably more appealing pricing than previous big MacBooks. Look at Apple’s MacBook Pro website, and you’ll notice that 14-inch Pros start at $1,999, while 16-inch Pros start at $2,499 at the very least.
The 15-Inch Air is a Costly Sacrifice
But not everything is a $1,300 picnic. This Air comes equipped with only 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, memory, and storage specs as low as you’ll find on a computer in 2023. Again, this may be acceptable for your use: M2 is powerful, and its design allows you to accomplish much with a tiny quantity of RAM.
But eventually, 8GB of RAM won’t be enough, and you won’t be able to upgrade it yourself. Similarly, 256GB of storage may suffice if you live your entire existence in the cloud. However, if you store photos, videos, or other large files on your Mac, you will eventually need to invest in an external hard drive that is permanently connected to your computer or deal with continual storage management until you sell the computer.

If you go to Apple’s refurbished shop (which you should always do), you can get a 14-inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro for $1,539 and a 14-inch M2 Pro MacBook Pro for $1,699.

With a 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU, the M2 Pro MacBook Pro outperforms the new MacBook Air, but both include all of the other benefits of Apple’s new MacBook Pros, including a significantly brighter 120Hz mini-LED display with much deeper blacks, an upgraded internal mic, HDMI port, SD card reader, and an extra USB-C port.
The 15-Inch MacBook Air Remains an Outstanding Device
Not to state that there are no advantages of Air. It weighs only 3.5 pounds, making it incredibly lightweight. Moreover, it is brand-new, which is always a plus when purchasing an expensive item of technology. Not for nothing is Apple’s Midnight color extremely attractive and exclusive to the MacBook Air line. The 15-inch MacBook Air is unquestionably a wonderful computer, as it is sleek, potent, efficient, and portable.
However, it is not the greatest value for the money. When looking to spend around $1,699 on a larger MacBook, that money goes a long way, particularly if you’re willing to purchase a previously owned model.
