Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman recently shared behind-the-scenes insights into Deadpool & Wolverine, revealing they had initially considered including Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider in the film. Appearing with director Shawn Levy on Entertainment Weekly’s Awards podcast, Reynolds and Jackman discussed early drafts that featured Cage, as well as Ben Affleck, in potential cameo roles.
Deadpool & Wolverine, which has already become a box-office hit with $1.335 billion in global earnings, features an impressive lineup of cameos. Wesley Snipes returns as Blade, Jennifer Garner reprises Elektra, Channing Tatum appears as Gambit, and Chris Evans briefly revisits his role as Johnny Storm. Reynolds admitted that while he would have loved to see Cage return as Ghost Rider, the actor ultimately declined the offer. Director Levy noted that Reynolds’ unique approach helped secure many other cameos, often by reaching out to actors directly via FaceTime.
The movie, streaming on Disney+, marks Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine, teaming up with Deadpool to battle Cassandra Nova, portrayed by Emma Corrin. Cage’s last appearance as Ghost Rider was a cameo in the DC film The Flash, directed by Andy Muschietti, where he played an alternate-reality version of the character.
