During an interview with IGN, Kelly Marcel—who is directing for the first time but has written all three Venom films—discussed how the enigmatic villain Knull fits into the storyline. Knull, also known as the King in Black, is one of the most formidable foes Venom has ever faced, being the supreme god of the symbiotes.

Marcel assured fans that they plan to do justice to Knull, stating that they want to ensure he returns for future films. “One movie could never do justice to Knull,” she insisted, hinting that “this is just the beginning.” She emphasized, “We’re in spoiler territory now, and we hope some of the fun of watching this movie is not knowing what will happen. But trust me, we know how important Knull is to the fans, so just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope to do the same for Knull. The King in Black is way too powerful for just one movie.”

While it’s common for filmmakers to tease future plans during promotional interviews, openly stating that the main villain of Venom 3 will survive feels a bit premature—especially considering rumors that Knull might play a significant role in Spider-Man 4 too. There’s chatter online about a potential title for Tom Holland’s much-anticipated return as the webslinger: Spider-Man: King in Black. This would allegedly see Peter Parker joining forces with Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock to take on Knull.
