Sandra Bullock has been pretty cautious about jumping back into movie roles, and at one point, she even had a strict “no sequels” policy. It’s been over 25 years since Speed 2: Cruise Control came out, and she still feels the sting of that disaster. Keanu Reeves, who starred in the first Speed movie, wisely opted out of this sequel, which awkwardly swapped a high-speed bus for a slow-moving cruise ship.
Since then, Bullock has only done one sequel: Miss Congeniality 2, released in 2005, which is sitting at a lowly 16% on Rotten Tomatoes. Given that track record, it’s easy to see why she might want to avoid sequels. In an interview with Too Fab, Bullock candidly shared her thoughts: “I have one…that I’m still embarrassed I was in. It’s called Speed 2. I’ve been very vocal about it. Makes no sense. Slow boat. Slowly going towards an island. That’s one I wished I hadn’t done.”
Daniel Radcliffe, who was also part of the conversation, tried to lighten the mood by mentioning that Speed 2 might have a cult following, but Bullock wasn’t buying it. “Very quiet. Like five people. Him and the other four 12-year-olds who were watching the slow boat going towards the tiny island,” she joked.
She added, “Every one of (the sequels I’ve done) has been an absolute stinker,” turning to Radcliffe and acknowledging his success with sequels. Radcliffe chimed in, “My career started on sequels. They’re all brilliant.” To which Bullock humorously replied, “Mine are all stinkers.”
It’s clear that Bullock is not just wary of sequels but also has some very strong opinions about her past projects, especially Speed 2, which she clearly wishes she could forget.
