Ryan Reynolds seems to be on a roll, and he’s not stopping at Deadpool. Following the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide in 2024, Reynolds is setting his sights on an iconic animated mouse—Mighty Mouse. According to Variety, Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort, is collaborating with Paramount Animation to bring this classic character to the big screen. The project will be scripted by Matt Lieberman, who worked with Reynolds on Free Guy.
Mighty Mouse, originally debuting in 1942, is a superhero-style rodent known for his strength and ability to save the day, making him the cartoon equivalent of Superman. While the character hasn’t been as prominent in recent years as some other animated franchises, it seems Reynolds sees potential in reviving Mighty Mouse for a new generation. His involvement has generated excitement, with many fans expressing confidence in his comedic talents to make this project another success. However, some are questioning why Reynolds is moving on from Deadpool and diving into yet another animated character.
It’s still unclear whether Reynolds will only be producing or if he’ll also voice Mighty Mouse, but given his comedic timing and past success with animated roles, he could be a great fit. This project adds to Reynolds’ growing involvement in animated series, as he is also producing a reboot of Biker Mice from Mars, showing his continued interest in bringing classic cartoons back to life.
As for what’s next? Well, with Reynolds’ track record, Pinky and the Brain could be a fun possibility—though hopefully, he’ll steer clear of having Chris Pratt voice yet another character!
