Robert Downey Jr. Opens Up On Potential MCU Return As Iron Man
It would not be a problem for Robert Downey Jr. to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor stated in an interview with Esquire that if the Marvel gods wanted him to, he would be happy to portray Tony Stark aka Iron Man in future films.
The actor said, “It’s (Iron Man) too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, ‘Never, ever, bet against Kevin Feige. It’s a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.'”
Robert stated that the last time he got together with MCU actors was in Atlanta while filming the Russo Brothers’ 2018 superhero ensemble Avengers: Infinity War. Despite their hectic filming schedules, they bonded over a celebratory dinner. “It was one of the last times you could get everybody from the franchises together, and I remember that being a special night,” the actor said.
He also stated that his relationships with his co-stars – Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts, Tony Stark’s wife), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (The Incredible Hulk), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), among others – were extremely close because, for the first time in Hollywood history, they collaborated over a decade to create a cinematic universe together.
