The second season of the Netflix live-action series One Piece is scheduled to return after garnering huge viewership on OTT. There has been an important change in the showrunners of the series as viewers anxiously anticipate season two. For the forthcoming season, Matt Owens and Joseph E. Tracz (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Dash & Lily) will act as showrunners in place of Steven Maeda.
The Pirate Saga franchise, led by Maeda and Owens and produced by Kaji Productions and Shueisha, is an adaptation of the well-known manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, who serves as the creative consultant for the series. The original show, which debuted in 1999 and ran for more than 25 years with 1100 episodes, was adapted from Oda’s original manga, which was first published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump publication in 1997 and is currently running in its final saga.
The story of One Piece recounts the story of the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates as they hunt for the legendary prestige treasure known as “One Piece,” which could make their captain, Monkey D. Luffy (played by Iűaki Godoy), the new “King of the Pirates.”
According to the official website of the Writers Guild of America (WGA), Maeda’s name is not found on the list of staff members for the second season of One Piece. Maeda’s name appears only against the teleplay in Romance Down, the opening episode of the second season, alongside Owens’s.
