Strands is a fresh daily puzzle from the New York Times, offering a more challenging twist on the classic word search. If you’re a fan of games like Wordle or Connections, you’ll enjoy Strands, but some days it can be a bit tricky, and it’s perfectly fine to need some help.

 

How to Play NYT Strands:

In Strands, your mission is to find specific “theme words” hidden in a grid of letters. You can manipulate letters by dragging or tapping them to form words. Once you’ve formed a word, double-tap the final letter to lock it in. Correct words will be highlighted in blue and those letters will no longer be available for use.

Even if you don’t find a theme word right away, finding non-theme words can still help! For every three non-theme words (at least four letters long), you’ll earn a hint. A hint reveals letters of a theme word, which you’ll need to unscramble.

Key things to remember:

  • Every letter in the grid will be used exactly once.
  • The puzzle includes a special word called a “spangram,” which spans two opposite sides of the board. This word is tied to the theme of the puzzle and will be highlighted yellow when found.

Your goal is to solve the puzzle as quickly as possible while minimizing hints!
