The New York Times has introduced Strands, an exciting new daily puzzle that takes a fresh twist on the classic word search! To succeed, you’ll need a sharp eye and maybe a little patience. Here’s a breakdown of how to tackle it and some tips for today’s puzzle if you’re finding it challenging.

Strands, like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, can be a bit of a brain-teaser. So if you’re stuck, don’t worry — you’re not alone! Here, you can find helpful hints or the complete answers if needed.

How to Play NYT Strands

In Strands, your mission is to locate “theme words” hidden in a grid of letters. You can drag or tap letters to spell out a word, then double-tap the final letter to confirm. When you correctly find a theme word, it will be highlighted in blue, locking those letters in place.

If you find a word that isn’t a theme word, don’t fret — for every three non-theme words (four letters or longer), you’ll receive a hint. This hint reveals letters in one of the theme words, and you’ll need to unscramble it to find the word.

The trickiest part? Every letter in the grid is used exactly once to form the theme words, with no overlap. The grid also contains one “spangram” — a key word or phrase that spans two opposite sides and represents the puzzle’s main theme. This spangram will be highlighted in yellow once you find it.

Your goal is to solve the puzzle as efficiently as possible without needing too many hints.
