Connections is one of the most engaging puzzle games from the New York Times, challenging players to sort a set of 16 words into four hidden categories by identifying the connections among them. Each night at midnight, a fresh puzzle is available, with the difficulty level varying day to day. Similar to the popular game Wordle, Connections allows you to track your progress, maintain a winning streak, and compare scores with friends, adding a social element to the experience.

Some days can be trickier than others, much like other NYT Games favorites like The Mini and Strands. How to Play Connections:

Available on both the New York Times website and the NYT Games app (iOS and Android), Connections displays a grid of 16 words. Your goal is to group these words into four sets of four, based on a shared theme among them. Themes might range from categories like video game series, book sequels, shades of a color, to names of popular restaurants, and so on.

Some words may appear to fit multiple themes, which can complicate things since only one solution is correct. You can also shuffle the word grid to better spot potential connections. Each of the four groups has a color ranking: yellow (easiest), followed by green, blue, and purple (hardest).

To play, select four words and hit “Submit.” If correct, the words will be grouped together and their theme will be revealed. A wrong guess, however, counts as one of your four mistakes allowed per game.
