Liverpool sign midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton to begin squad rebuild
Liverpool confirmed on Thursday that they had signed World Cup winner Alexis MacAllister from Brighton & Hove Albion to a long-term contract after a disappointing season.
Though the transfer’s costs were not made public, British media claimed that the Argentine midfielder was 55 million pounds ($68.51 million).
Mac Allister, 24, said in a statement.“It feels amazing.” He went on to say that it’s a dream come true, that it’s incredible to be here and that he is excited to get started.
He added, “I wanted to be in (from) the first day of pre-season, so it’s good that everything is done. I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates.”
Mac Allister assisted Brighton secure European participation for the first time in an amazing 2022-23 season, scoring 10 league goals in 35 Premier League games as they finished 6th.
The 24-year-old joined the south coast club in January 2019 and was loaned back to his previous team Argentinos Juniors prior to making his Brighton debut in March 2020. In October, he signed a new deal with Brighton.
“Since I won the World Cup, I said that I want to win more trophies and I think that this club will help me to do that,” Mac Allister added.
The midfielder has 16 caps for Argentina and appeared in 6 games during their 2022 World Cup-winning campaign, including the final, which Argentina won on penalties against France.
