Lionel Messi, Argentina’s legendary footballer, shocked the football world on Wednesday night when he announced a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami. The transfer occurred only days after Messi’s final match for PSG, the star forward had been heavily linked with a transfer back to FC Barcelona as well as Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. The Miami club is managed by football legend David Beckham and Messi’s arrival is a significant boost to their revival this year. Inter Miami is currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table.

Jorge Mas, one of Inter Miami’s owners, tweeted a picture of a darkly silhouetted Messi jersey soon before the Argentine announced his decision in interviews with Spanish news sources Mundo Deportivo and Sport.

He stated in interviews on Wednesday that some final details still need to be worked out, but that he has decided to continue his path in Miami.

“After winning the World Cup and not being able to return to Barcelona, it was my turn to go to the league of the United States to live football in another way,” Messi said.

Messi’s upcoming games are probably friendlies with Argentina against Australia in Beijing on June 15 and against Indonesia in Jakarta four days later. His Inter Miami debut is probably going to happen sometime in July.
