Liam Payne’s father gets devastating news about son’s remains
It’s been more than a week since Liam Payne tragically passed away, and there are still no updates on when a memorial service will be held. His father, Geoff Payne, has been informed that he might have to wait longer before bringing his son’s remains back to the U.K. This is because authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Liam’s death.
Liam, known for being a part of One Direction, fell from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires on September 16. As fans around the world mourn his loss, his family has largely stayed out of the public eye. However, Geoff, who is 66, traveled to Argentina to be with his son, despite his overwhelming grief.
Geoff went to the morgue where Liam’s body is being kept, hoping to arrange for it to be flown back home. Unfortunately, officials from Argentina’s Ministry of Justice have told him that he needs to wait for the results of toxicology and histopathology tests before he can have Liam’s body released.
A family friend mentioned to the Daily Mail that Geoff has been told it could take up to ten days for the test results to come back, which is making this whole situation even more difficult for him. He is heartbroken over losing his son and is determined to do right by Liam, refusing to leave without him. The uncertainty of how long this will drag on is particularly tough for him to handle. While officials estimate the results will take ten days, there’s a chance it might be quicker.
On October 21, Geoff met with the lead investigator, Andrés Esteban Madrea, from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office. During their meeting, Geoff expressed his willingness to share everything he knows about Liam’s life that might aid the investigation. They also discussed updates on the case, and Geoff emphasized that he prefers transparency rather than keeping things private.
The investigation involves examining Liam’s cell phones, computers, photos, and security camera footage from the hotel, which could take some time to analyze. Hotel staff have also been questioned, especially amid claims that Liam, who was thought to have overcome substance use, might have been targeted by drug dealers at the hotel.
Additionally, witness statements are being gathered to piece together Liam’s last hours and the events leading up to his fall. This process includes talking to hotel employees, friends, and medical professionals who were associated with him through his work.
The British consulate has been kept in the loop about the legal proceedings, given that Liam was a British citizen, and they’ve offered their assistance.
Argentina’s Ministry of Justice has promised to inform Liam’s family of any significant developments in the investigation. Due to the high-profile nature of Liam’s death, Geoff has even been offered police protection.
Geoff also visited the CasaSur Palermo hotel, where he took a moment to read tributes to Liam and thank the fans who gathered for a vigil outside. He even stood on the balcony where his son’s tragic fall occurred.
