Liam Payne’s cause of death, confirmed

Liam Payne, the 31-year-old former member of One Direction, has tragically died while in Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to Reuters, local police were called to his hotel after reports of an “aggressive man,” believed to be Payne, who was allegedly intoxicated and under the influence of drugs. Authorities later reported that Payne jumped from a third-floor window, a tragic conclusion to the distressing incident.

Sky News has shared the translated transcript of the 911 call made by the hotel’s desk manager, in which the manager urgently describes a guest who was “breaking everything in the room” and under the effects of drugs and alcohol. Fearing for the guest’s safety, the manager urgently requested help, noting the guest’s access to a balcony and potential risk of self-harm.

Payne rose to fame on The X Factor before joining One Direction alongside Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Harry Styles. Together, they became a global phenomenon, selling over 70 million records before disbanding in 2016. Payne later pursued a solo career, releasing his album LP1 in 2019. At this time, Payne’s former bandmates have not publicly commented on his passing.

Just days before his death, Payne’s ex-fiancée, model Maya Henry, filed a legal complaint against him. She alleged he had been harassing her family and friends and even trying to turn her fans against her. In a recent TikTok, Henry claimed Payne would repeatedly message her from multiple phone numbers, even alleging he told her about past tensions with his former bandmate, Zayn Malik.

On the day of his death, fans noticed a Snapchat post from Payne mentioning he was enjoying Argentina, though it’s uncertain if this was a live post or scheduled earlier. Payne had recently attended a Niall Horan concert in Buenos Aires, and his current girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, had reportedly left Argentina two days before his death.

In the wake of the news, there has been an overwhelming response from both fans and celebrities. Fans gathered at the Buenos Aires hotel to pay their respects, and celebrities like Paris Hilton shared tributes online. The official Brit Awards account also honored him with a heartfelt post.

Payne is survived by his son, whom he shares with his ex-partner Cheryl from the British pop group Girls Aloud. Reflecting on his career in 2019, Payne spoke about his challenging journey through fame and expressed gratitude, saying, “I know it’s where I’m supposed to be in the world now. I was very confused about fame when it all happened… But now I feel like I get it. I’m a lucky boy.”
