Latest injury news on Derek Carr: Here’s all that you need to know!

The New Orleans Saints tried to make a comeback on “Monday Night Football,” but unfortunately, they fell short against the Kansas City Chiefs, losing 26-13. The big worry now is the health of their quarterback, Derek Carr.

Carr had to leave the game in the fourth quarter after getting hit hard in the midsection. At that point, the Saints were down by 10 points, and they couldn’t close the gap. Before his injury, Carr had a mixed performance, completing 18 of 28 passes for 165 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception.

Jake Haener took over as quarterback after Carr left the field.

Update on Derek Carr’s Injury

Carr’s injury occurred during a crucial fourth-down pass attempt when he was pressured by the Chiefs’ defense. On a fourth-and-8 play, he tried to throw a deep pass to tight end Mason Tipton, but the ball went through Tipton’s hands, resulting in a turnover for the Saints. Unfortunately, Carr took a tough hit during that play and went into the medical tent on the sidelines before heading to the locker room.

After the game, the Saints reported that Carr is “questionable” to return due to an oblique injury.

In his post-game interview, Carr said that the injury is “not good” and that he would have an MRI to get more information. He explained that the pain didn’t come from the hit but rather from the way he threw the ball. “I couldn’t do what I needed to do,” he mentioned, highlighting his inability to return to the game.

Saints’ Quarterback Situation

Here’s a look at the Saints’ quarterback depth chart:

Derek Carr
Carr, who joined the Saints before the 2023 season, has been one of the league’s most effective quarterbacks. In four games this season, he has an impressive completion rate of 72%, which would set a new career high for him. He has relied heavily on playmakers like Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, and Rashid Shaheed to power the team’s offense, and the results have been promising.

At 33 years old, Carr may not be known for his rushing ability or explosive arm strength, but he excels in making precise passes and has a solid presence in the pocket.

Jake Haener
Haener, drafted in the fourth round by the Saints in 2023, didn’t see any action last year because he was suspended for six games due to violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. He started the season as the third-string quarterback behind Carr and Jameis Winston, but with Winston no longer on the team, Haener has stepped up as the backup. He had a good training camp, which earned him the backup role. So far this season, he has played in two games, but his stats are modest—his first pass was incomplete, and his rushing attempts were for negative yards.

If Carr’s injury keeps him sidelined, Haener, who was a starting quarterback for three years at Fresno State, will be the next man up.

Spencer Rattler
Rattler, a fifth-round rookie, is currently the third-string quarterback for the Saints. He has been generating buzz due to his impressive college career at Oklahoma and South Carolina, where he threw for 10,807 yards and 77 touchdowns while tossing 32 interceptions. New Orleans is giving Rattler time to develop his skills, with the hope that he may take on a more significant role in the future.

As the Saints navigate Carr’s injury, fans will be keeping a close eye on the team’s quarterback situation and how they adapt moving forward.
