Based on real-life investigative journalist Jake Adelstein’s 2009 memoir, ‘Tokyo Vice’ is a crime-drama show that covers the end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first. It follows Adelstein, an American expatriate from Columbia, Missouri, who comes to Tokyo, Japan, to study at the elite Sophia University before becoming a reporter for the Meicho Shimbun, a fictional Japanese-language newspaper. Soon enough, he becomes exposed to numerous sides of the famed Kabukich district, including the yakuza.
