Looks like Deadpool might be making an unexpected return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) sooner than we thought! After the huge box office success of this summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine, we figured Marvel would want to prioritize more adventures for Wade Wilson. But we didn’t expect to see Ryan Reynolds back in the Deadpool suit quite this quickly!
Recently, Reynolds shared some jaw-dropping pictures on Instagram, revealing that he suited up as Deadpool for at least one day of filming for an undisclosed project. In one selfie, he’s wearing the iconic red and black costume—mask off, of course. He joked, “That was fun today!” His second photo features Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, and he couldn’t help but express his excitement, saying, “Got to see the gorgeous, legendary, one and only Leslie Uggams!”
That’s pretty much all we know about what Reynolds is up to as Deadpool right now. However, from the background in their selfie, it looks like this project might be Christmas-themed. Is that just a coincidence? I think not!
Is Ryan Reynolds Filming a Deadpool Christmas Special for Disney Plus?
I know you’re thinking it, and I am too—could these surprise selfies mean that a Deadpool Christmas special is headed to Disney Plus this December? Just picture it: Deadpool Saves Christmas, where Wade Wilson finds the true meaning of the holidays by rescuing a hilariously foul-mouthed Santa (maybe played by Danny DeVito) from, I don’t know, Thanos or something. Please make this happen, Kevin Feige!
On the flip side, could Marvel be pulling a move similar to what Fox did with Deadpool 2? Back in 2018, Fox released a PG-13 version of that movie, removing all the R-rated scenes but adding new footage, packaging it as Once Upon a Deadpool. Are we about to see Once Upon a Deadpool & Wolverine just in time for Christmas?
As much as we’d love for Deadpool to get his own version of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, it seems more likely that Reynolds is just doing something small. From what we know, this was a one-day gig for him and Uggams, which suggests it might just be a short promotional video lasting only a few minutes. There’s a chance it could be a Disney Plus short, perhaps to coincide with the upcoming release of Deadpool & Wolverine on the platform.
Typically, MCU movies take about four months to land on streaming services. For example, The Marvels hit theaters in November 2023 and became available on Disney Plus by February this year. So, we can expect Deadpool & Wolverine to premiere around the holidays, likely in late November. It seems like we might get two festive surprises at once! Thanks, Reynolds—you’re like our own Santa Claus!
