Is Elon Musk buying Amazon?

The recent rumors about Elon Musk buying Amazon are completely false, though the idea gained some traction online, partly fueled by Musk’s ongoing rivalry with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The speculation seems to have originated from a now-deleted YouTube channel called Elon Musk Rewind, which posted a video claiming Musk had acquired Amazon and “ended all competition.” This clickbait video spread widely, with AI-generated images of Musk holding an Amazon contract, adding fuel to the fire. However, no legitimate news sources have reported this acquisition, and it appears to be part of a larger trend of fake news stories about Musk buying major companies, like CNN.

While Musk hasn’t purchased Amazon, the rivalry between him and Bezos continues to heat up. Musk recently accused Bezos of advising people to sell their Tesla and SpaceX stocks due to his belief that former President Trump would lose his re-election bid, which Musk felt would negatively impact Tesla’s stock. Bezos denied this claim, and Musk corrected himself after receiving pushback.

On top of their ongoing spat, there’s also the legal side of their competition. Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) has been in a legal battle with Bezos’ company Twitch, which Musk claims conspired to damage X’s ad revenue. X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, has alleged that this illegal behavior cost the platform billions.

Despite these tensions, Musk’s financial situation has been improving. Since taking over X, ad revenue has dropped, but there are signs that some advertisers are returning. Musk’s support for Trump may have been a strategic business move rather than purely political, given that his Tesla stock has surged by $70 billion in recent months.

In the end, Musk and Bezos remain locked in a space race, each trying to outdo the other in both business and technology. It seems the rivalry between the two billionaire moguls is far from over, but for now, the rumor of Musk acquiring Amazon is just that—a rumor.
