The New York Jets’ season, which began with Super Bowl aspirations, is now on the brink of being over, with a 3-7 record. While their playoff hopes are slim, finishing the season strong could still provide a small victory for a struggling franchise.
A key player in whether the Jets can turn things around is wide receiver Davante Adams. When Adams and quarterback Aaron Rodgers were in sync during Week 9, the Jets’ offense thrived. On the other hand, the offense struggled in Week 10 when Adams went without a catch in the first half. If Adams isn’t able to play in Week 11 against the Colts, the Jets could face another tough challenge.
Is Davante Adams playing this week?
Adams is expected to play against the Colts, according to interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, although he’s officially listed as questionable on the injury report. He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday due to a wrist injury and illness, but was back on the field Friday, showing signs of being in good shape for Sunday’s game. This is promising news for the Jets, who were unsure whether Adams would be available after missing back-to-back practices. Having Adams on the field is especially important as it helps take some pressure off Garrett Wilson, the team’s top receiver.
The Jets’ receiving corps relies heavily on Adams and Wilson, as the backup options are limited. With Allen Lazard on injured reserve, Xavier Gipson and Malachi Corley are next in line. Both players have had minimal roles this season, though Corley’s involvement has slightly increased in the past two weeks. If Adams were unavailable, Corley might have seen more playing time, but as it stands, Adams is on track to play and should be a key target for Rodgers.
While the Jets have had difficulty generating big plays this season, Adams and Wilson have remained solid fantasy options due to their volume of targets. Last week, Adams caught six out of 13 targets from Rodgers against the Cardinals, marking his second straight week with double-digit targets. Rodgers continues to look for Adams, his former Packers teammate, and Adams still has the ability to be a top-tier receiver.
Against a Colts defense that ranks 28th in passing yards allowed, the Jets’ passing game could see more success. The Colts also have a subpar ranking in passer rating and passing touchdowns allowed. With favorable weather expected, the outlook for the Jets’ passing game is promising.
The only potential concern is if the Jets build an early lead, as offensive coordinator Todd Downing may opt to focus on the running game, especially with Breece Hall showing improved efficiency in recent weeks. But with the Jets, even an early lead is something fantasy managers might have to wait and see
