Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’ unveils first look image
Master director Francis Ford Coppola has released the first official image of his eagerly awaited movie Megalopolis, which will premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
Megalopolis is set in a futuristic city similar to the Roman Empire and follows an architect named Caesar (Adam Driver), who seeks to rebuild New York City as a utopia after a disaster.
The first picture from the science fiction epic features Driver’s Caesar looking over plans to rebuild the City of New Rome while Mayor Cicero’s socialite daughter Julia (Nathalie Emmanuel) watches.
Coppola, who is well-known for his roles in Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, and The Godfather franchise, posted the picture on his official Instagram profile on Tuesday. The caption reads, “This is the first official image of @megalopolisfilm to be released publicly. It brings me joy to share a glimpse of what is to come…”
The film, which is Coppola’s long-term passion project, will have a grand premiere on May 17 in the Competition segment of Cannes.
Furthermore, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Dustin Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman and Talia Shire feature in Megalopolis. In addition to directing, writing, and producing the film, Coppola also attached producers Fred Roos, Barry Hirsch and Michael Bederman.
