Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 gets 2025 release date
There’s exciting news for the Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel: Universal and its partner Blumhouse have announced a release date for one of the most anticipated films. Given the popularity of the first film at the box office, a sequel was expected to come.
Despite the critics’ negative reviews, Five Nights at Freddy’s has become a box-office hit. After generating USD 297 million, the movie surpassed Split (2016) to become Blumhouse’s highest-grossing movie globally. Although Five Nights at Freddy’s has an 88% audience rating and an amazing A- CinemaScore, it only has a 26% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
On Thursday, Universal Pictures revealed release dates for three major genre projects, one of which being Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel. According to Variety, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is scheduled to be released on December 5, 2025.
Emma Tammi will return to helm the sequel. Scott Cawthon and Jason Blum will return to produce.
Although the studio hasn’t officially cast anyone as of yet, most of the first film’s actors will likely return. Josh Hutcherson, who plays Mike Schmidt, has already opened up about the plans for the sequel. Matthew Lillard also expressed his opinions on what he wants to see in the sequel.
Before the official announcement of the sequel, Lillard said to Collider, “I don’t know if it’s gonna be greenlit, it certainly hasn’t been greenlit for me, but the expectation is that they will be making more, and in success, it’s Hollywood, they’ll make a lot more. So, that’s exciting.”
