Disney drops first look image from ‘Moana 2’, Dwayne Johnson to return for the sequel
Disney has dropped a new picture for the eagerly awaited sequel of the 2016 film Moana. In the picture posted on X, previously Twitter, early Wednesday, the now-older titular princess is shown holding an oar as she cruises, her face filled with confidence and victory. While most details regarding Moana 2 are presently unknown, it is scheduled to be released in theatres in November of this year.
The most recent image from the animated movie’s future sequel was revealed during Disney’s 2024 annual shareholders meeting. The company’s initial ideas included a TV series forDisney+ that would revive Moana for viewers. Nevertheless, the original plan was changed when Disney revealed its choice for a second movie in February.

Dave Derrick Jr. is directing Moana 2, which has music by Mark Mancina, Emily Bear, Abigail Barlow and Opetaia Foa’i. The movie’s debut is scheduled for November 27.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s return has also been confirmed alongside the new picture. During the meeting, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that Auli’i Cravalho and the WWE star will play Maui and Moana in Moana 2, respectively. But in the live-action adaptation of the movie, The Rock will also portray Maui, with another actress portraying Moana.
