The premiere of George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga at the Cannes Film Festival 2024 received a thunderous response. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the 5th instalment in the action franchise got a 7-minute long standing ovation at the Grand Lumiere Theatre. Chris Hemsworth, Anya Taylor-Joy and filmmaker George Miller were among the cast members in attendance.
According to the report, Furiosa received much enthusiasm and love in Cannes, where Chris and Anya welcomed fans outside the theatre and delighted them with pictures. Anya wore a gorgeous champagne-coloured Dior ball gown with Tiffany & Co. jewellery. On the other hand, Chris wore black pants, a white jacket, and a shirt without a tie. Following the premiere, the three of them rose and were seen laughing and embracing one another. Baz Luhrmann, the director of Elvis, was also in the audience and hugged George Miller.
Anya takes Charlize Theron’s role in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) as Furiosa. Chris appears in the action movie as a warlord. It is set 10 years before the 2015 film.
According to the Cannes Film Festival website, the official synopsis of the film reads, “As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
