Chris Hemsworth has voiced his disappointment over criticism towards movies by Marvel studios made by directors such as Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola.  He states that hearing their opinions about superhero movies bothers him. The actor talked about the negative views that directors have about the superhero genre in a recent interview with The Times of London.

Chris said, “It felt harsh, and it bothers me, especially from heroes. It was an eye-roll for me, people bashing the superhero space,” the actor said, adding, “Those guys had films that didn’t work too — we all have. When they talked about what was wrong with superheroes, I thought, cool, tell that to the billions who watch them. Were they all wrong?”

He said that cinema-going did not change because of superheroes, but rather because of cellphones and social media. “Superhero films actually kept people in the cinemas during that transition and now people are coming back. So they deserve a little more appreciation,” he stated.

He also criticized actors who have spoken negatively about their experiences filming superhero movies. However, he did not particularly name anyone.

Chris stated it bothers him when actors talk about a project with “guilt or shame,” as he believes one should be humble towards the people they have worked with. Having said that, Chris does not deny that there is a “superhero curse” since one feels pigeonholed.
