Emma Stone starrer ‘Kinds of Kindness’ gets 4 minute standing ovation at Cannes

Kinds of Kindness, featuring Emma Stone and helmed by Yorgos Lanthimos, amazed audiences at the Cannes Film Festival with a series of stories about sex cults, cannibalism and debauchery. This movie, the follow-up to Poor Things, garnered a standing ovation that lasted more than four minutes and thirty seconds. Lanthimos and other cast members left the venue while the applause was still ongoing.

Demi Moore, Mike Faist, Eva Green and Chloe Fineman were among the people who joined Lanthimos on the red carpet, along with Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, Alwyn Chau, Mamoudou Athie, Qualley and others.

Three different narratives are told in Kinds of Kindness, with actors portraying several parts in each. Parts of the movie were incredibly horrific and scary, as seen during its Cannes debut. Lanthimos did not give a speech about his film following the screening. The film stars Hunter Schafer, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Mamoudou Athie, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Emma Stone and Joe Alwyn.

Some scenes that contribute to the the movie’s avant-garde style include Chau’s performance as a cultist participating in a creepy initiation ceremony, a husband believing his wife is an alien, various forms of sexual activity taking place in the same room at the same time, Stone’s breakdance, a dangerous driving scene, cannibalistic culinary highlights not for the faint of heart, and brutality. Despite its disturbing content, this absurdist comedy was warmly welcomed by audiences.
