Gong Yoo In Talks To Star Opposite Song Hye-kyo For A Historical Drama

With a production budget of 80 billion Korean Won, a historical K-drama led by screenwriter Noh Hee-kyung is set to reshape the genre. OSEN’s latest investigation, released on April 25, reveals amazing details about this huge project, which would span 20-24 episodes and cover Korea’s stormy journey from the Korean War to the 1980s.

This epic drama, produced in collaboration with Studio Dragon and Noh Hee-kyung’s agency, seeks to set new standards for quality and scale. However, what truly excites both the industry and viewers is the probable casting coup of two Korean entertainment icons: Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo. According to reports, both stars are “positively considering” their roles in the Korean drama.

The estimated project is expected to have an episode production cost of about 3 billion won (about 2.1 million USD), with a total production budget anticipated to be over 80 billion won (about 58 million USD). The K-drama’s OTT platform placement is presently a topic of discussion.

Last year, the series ‘Moving’ spent more than 50 billion won (about 36 million USD) on production expenses for a total of 20 episodes. Despite its rarity on a home production scale, the series garnered enormous global love and popularity. Speculation is that Noh Hee-kyung’s upcoming project, with its large episode count and period drama genre, could result in higher production costs, even exceeding the size of ‘Moving’.
