Stephen King needs you to stop what you’re doing and listen to his 2-word Donald Trump update
Another day, another sharp critique of former President Donald Trump, this time from renowned author Stephen King.
King has made it his goal to call out the Republican presidential candidate ever since Trump announced his run back in 2016, a time many now look back on as “simpler times.” As the election approaches, King shows no signs of holding back.
His criticisms of Trump come in a variety of styles. Sometimes they’re poetic and elaborate—something you’d expect from a bestselling author known for creating rich, imaginative worlds. Other times, they’re direct and to the point, like his latest jab at Trump on X (formerly Twitter).
On October 16, King posted what might be his briefest assessment yet of the potential future president. You might think it would be a deep dive into Trump’s policies or a thoughtful look at how we got to this point in politics. But no, it was just a two-word tweet that packs a punch like a lengthy essay would.
“Trump’s weird,” King stated, clearly making good use of X’s character limit. This isn’t the first time Trump has been called “weird,” either. During the early days of the presidential race, Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz led a campaign to label Trump—and the Republican Party in general—as “weird.” This label caught on and shifted the narrative from seeing Trump as a threat to democracy to viewing him more like that odd relative who says strange things at family gatherings. The term became so popular that even Kamala Harris used it, which ignited anger among Trump’s supporters and conservative media figures.
While King’s comments might seem a bit random, they’re relevant, especially considering Trump’s recent behavior. He’s been obsessively promoting a new biopic about himself, making odd remarks about Harris’s seasonal allergies, and even performing a bizarre robot dance at a town hall meeting—none of which helps shake off the “weird” label.
And that’s not even touching on the slew of odd things he’s done leading up to these moments, like casually referencing Hannibal Lecter or going on and on about sharks and batteries. All these incidents likely inspired King’s latest tweet, but knowing King’s quick responses to Trump’s antics, this probably won’t be the last we hear from him as the presidential race heats up.
In just the last few months, King has likened Trump to a character from one of his most famous novels, claimed Trump’s “brain is turning to mush,” criticized him for talking down to people during debates, and insisted that Trump shouldn’t be near any political power.
All of this is happening while King promotes the recent film adaptation of his book *The Life of Chuck*, featuring Tom Hiddleston, which premiered last month. Clearly, King always finds time for a quick two-word critique of Trump.
With King alongside other notable Trump critics like Bette Midler and Mark Hamill, it seems we can expect plenty more colorful commentary about the former president in our social media feeds. That is, unless someone like Dennis Quaid decides to chime in!
