Woman accosted in supermarket for bringing her totally legal service dog inside

A TikTok user, @Ellsthefair, recently shared a frustrating experience at an Asda grocery store in the UK, where she was confronted by an employee for bringing her service dog, Genie, inside. The employee, who claimed to be head of security, demanded a “Service ID” or “dog license” as proof of Genie’s status—documents that don’t actually exist in the UK. When @Ellsthefair couldn’t provide this, she was told to leave and later banned from the store, allegedly for being “rude” and recording the interaction.

Despite this, she was backed by onlookers who spoke up in her defense, and even the police later affirmed that denying access to a customer with a service dog without legal cause is discriminatory. They encouraged her to file a report, explaining that bans over rudeness alone aren’t lawful and that recording in public spaces is allowed.

The encounter, documented in a TikTok video, has sparked outrage among viewers. Many called out the employee’s behavior as “disability discrimination” and urged for her dismissal, describing her actions as “aggressive” and “disrespectful.” The video adds to the growing list of viral confrontations on TikTok, showcasing disputes in retail and hospitality settings.
