The Miami Dolphins are gearing up for the return of their starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals. According to Dianna Russini from The Athletic, Tua is set to return to practice next week, with the expectation that he’ll be ready to play in the Week 8 game. This would be Tua’s first time back on the field since suffering a concussion in Week 2 during a game against the Buffalo Bills.
Russini shared, “Tua Tagovailoa is back. The Miami quarterback is set to practice this week and the hope is he will start in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals, per sources.”
Earlier this week, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel mentioned that he does expect Tua to return this season but didn’t provide an exact date. “I do expect to see him playing football in 2024,” McDaniel said, adding that they’ll follow the process and assess his readiness in the coming days.
Since Tua’s injury, the Dolphins have had a rough stretch, losing three out of four games, including the one where he got hurt. Skylar Thompson and Tyler Huntley have been filling in at quarterback, but it’s been a challenge to replace Tua’s presence on the field.
It seems Miami only has to manage one more game without Tua, with a Week 7 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts on the horizon. By the time Tua returns, the Dolphins will either be 2-4 or 3-3, depending on how that game goes. Regardless, there will still be time for Miami to make a push for the playoffs once Tua is back, though that path will be tougher if they fall to the Colts.
