NYT Connections: hints and answers for Saturday, October 19

Connections is the newest puzzle game brought to you by the New York Times. The objective? You’re given a set of 16 words and have to group them into four secret categories by figuring out how they relate to one another. A fresh puzzle is available daily at midnight, and each one comes with its own level of difficulty. Like Wordle, you can track your winning streak and even compare scores with your friends.

How to Play Connections

In Connections, you’ll see a grid of 16 words. Your job is to organize these words into four groups of four, based on a common theme or link between them. These groups might be connected by things like famous video game franchises, book series, different shades of red, or even chain restaurant names.

Sometimes, words will seem like they could fit into multiple groups, which makes the game tricky. But there’s always one correct solution. You can shuffle and rearrange the words to help spot patterns. Once you think you’ve got a set, select four words and hit “Submit.” If you’re right, the words will disappear from the grid and their shared theme will be revealed. If you’re wrong, it counts as a mistake, and you only get four mistakes before the game is over.

The groups are color-coded, with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple (the most challenging).
