1923 Season 2 Shooting Update Seemingly Confirms Location Change
Fans were excited when the Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led Yellowstone spinoff series 1923 premiered in December 2022. 1923, the second prequel to Yellowstone, stars Kevin Costner as the fictional John Dutton. The first prequel, 1883, made its premiere in December 2021 and featured Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, a real-life couple. 1923, set forty years after the first spinoff, focuses on Dutton’s ancestors, Cara and Jacob Dutton, played by Ford and Mirren, respectively.
Paramount+ announced that a second season of 1923 is on the way ahead of the show’s first-season conclusion. However, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have caused a delay in the series’ production. While cast and release dates have yet to be revealed, it has been reported that the 2nd season shooting site has been changed.
A recent report claims that 1923 season 2 would film away from Montana, at a new location. The Austin Business Journal report states that instead of filming in Montana, 1923 season 2 will now be filmed at ATX Film Studios in South Austin, Texas. In addition to Texas, Season 1 was filmed in South Africa, Malta, and Kenya. It’s unknown whether Season 2 will include any other sites outside of Texas.
J.P. Gallagher, the chief executive of Butte-Silver Bow County, issued a statement to Montana Standard on the recent change in site. “The decision to film the Yellowstone series of 1923 in Texas is disappointing.” Gallagher added, “Nevertheless, the production team’s decision is respected, and it is acknowledged that these choices are influenced by factors beyond our control.”
